Thank you all so much for your kind comments about our blog. I especially appreciate the love shown from you Georgia fans even though you know Holt is a big Bama fan. I always wanted at least one of my kids to be a Bama fan. See, I grew up in Alabama and moved to Georgia when I was in the tenth grade. When you are born in the state of Alabama, you pick a team and stick to it. Your baby booties are either crimson and white or, the not so pretty in my opinion, orange and blue. You are either an Alabama fan or an Auburn fan from the beginning, and if you change teams after that first decision, you are known as a traitor for certain. To say the least, football in Alabama is serious.
When Holt was young he was a true Georgia Bulldog fooball fan. He loved Georgia so much that year after year when he ran for Student Council, he had to have a Georgia poster or stickers made that connected him to the Dawgs. A vote for the Georgia Bulldogs was a vote for Holt. I laugh when I think about all the Georgia tatoos that I have put on that boy’s cheeks before Georgia games. Holt loved Georgia so much that one year for Christmas we took him to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans to watch Georgia play FSU. He was estatic when he found those tickets at the very bottom of his stocking on Christmas morning!
What made him change from the little boy in red and black to the young man in crimson and white? Maybe he got older and wiser, …just kidding. Maybe his mama started influencing him more than his daddy,… I wish. Maybe Alabama got a new coach and started winning! I don’t know for sure, but I know that God is so good. Now, I don’t just have one child who loves Bama but I have two! My younger son, Hunter, has become quite the Tide fan like his big brother, and I couldn’t be more proud.
What does all this have to do with the title of my blog tonite, you ask? Well, the ‘Purpose” of The Holt Rowland Foundation blog is to do two things. First, to honor Jesus Christ by sharing simple truths that He has taught me through the last two years and secondly, to share something with you about Holt Rowland and the foundation. If you know of Holt, hopefully we can share a sweet memory of him with you and bring a smile to your face. If you did not know much about Holt, maybe we can help you get to know him better. Believe me, he is too special not to share.
Our first foundation golf tournament is now about one month away. All golfers are welcome…whether you are a Bama fan or not! 🙂
That is a great story. I was at that UGA/FSU game in New Orleans. We love you guys and are continuing to pray for each of you.
Keith and I just looked at the picture he has of Holt – the one in Jerry J’s where Keith caught him wearing a Bulldogs Hat, on his was to the game. Holt tried to get the hat off before Keith saw it, but he was not quick enough 🙂 Keith insisted he put it back on so he could take a picture. I feel pretty sure there is slim chance Alabama was playing that weekend.
Great job on the blog posts,Kim! I know Holt is extremely proud of You!
